Overall an Excellent Experience
Ida Mae was unfortunately missed by us, but with good reason. We were constrained as to when we could leave because my buddy is caregiver to his 92 year old Mom. Fortunately though, we got in our seats 2 MINUTES before Lucinda Williams started. Lucinda, who has had a major stroke in November 2026, did not play any guitar. She said she has had to relearn everything, including tying her shoes. Her one hour set was inspiring and courageous. I thought that her tremendous voice held up reasonably well through it all. I'm a fan.......WHAT A WRITER. Pick up Car Wheels On A Gravel Road or World Without Tears. You won't be disappointed.
Gov't Mule was up next, and I must confess they are my favorite live act. They delivered their usual BLISTERING one hour set (I say usual but if not part of a Festival The Mule will play between 2-1/2 - 3 hours). Patchwork Quilt (Warren Haynes' tribute to Jerry Garcia) was beautiful. There were three great sit-ins, including Micah Nelson on CSNY's Ohio. Ohio was just a TORRID version, Nelson and Haynes scorching on guitar.
Next up were the Avett Brothers, a very accomplished country band from North Carolina. Great musicians, great vocals, and harmonies. Not really my thing personally, but I could appreciate them. Then Local H. I give Local H a LOT of credit for going out there at 88 years old. He sat as he played and sang for his entire hour 15 minutes, and who could blame him? His set was largely a snoozer, just very perfunctory and predictable with very few surprises. I saw him 20 years ago and I saw him 30 years ago; he was much more lively and the music was more interesting then. But what would one expect? Just seeing him still walk out there is cool. Here's to you Local H for keeping it going though!!
